One or two interns (per semester or season) motivated by the opportunity to learn about the book publishing business from the unique perspective of a young trade publishing company. Candidates for our internship positions are asked to commit to at least three days or 20 or more hours a week over the course of the summer semester (May/June through August, 2012).
Our publishing internship is an opportunity to learn about all aspects of book publishing in a small, friendly environment. Our interns will get the chance to gain experience and develop skills reading and evaluating book proposals; writing clear, effective copy, including catalog copy, press materials, and blog posts; contributing to author/book publicity and marketing campaigns; as well as helping with periodic mailings and various administrative tasks.
Work hours are 10 to 6, Monday through Friday.
A hospitable, low-stress work environment in lower midtown Manhattan, a few blocks north of Madison Square Park, in a light-filled loft space. A great opportunity to gain hands-on publishing experience and contacts in the book publishing industry as well as an in-depth understanding of the publishing process, from a unique perspective.
Length of Internship: Summer 2012: May or June through August, 2012.
Requirements: Prospective interns must have completed their sophomore year in college and be currently enrolled as a student, or be a recent college graduate. Highly desirable requirements are outstanding written and communication skills, a firm grasp of the basic rules of English grammar, and an efficient and organized way of doing things. Previous office experience is preferred but not mandatory. Curiosity and an inclination and ability to ask questions are also essential, as is discretion.
