Fun Pi Day Exercises to Make You Less Afraid of Math

Happy Pi Day! It’s no secret that you either love or loathe the world of mathematics. Depending on how you feel about numbers, you might be celebrating the day with a slice of pie or solving math equations—or neither. Most of us remember from math class that Pi is that essential number that starts with 3.14 and trails off into the distance with digits beyond its decimal point, but why it deserves its own day of celebration is lost on many. What’s the big deal?

Pi is the ratio of a circle’s diameter to its circumference. Simple enough, but this is where it gets interesting: it keeps on popping up in nature. Pi is the very number that explains why zebras have stripes, how the structure of an eye came to be, why a river meanders the way it does… and much, much more. Somehow, the number that lacks pattern in its infinite form is responsible for the wealth of patterns that surrounds us in nature.

Pi Day certainly is worth a celebration: without the number, some of life’s greatest mysteries would go unresolved! Now, if you’re looking for a way to pay tribute to Pi, how about you challenge yourself with some fun (yes, fun!) number exercises? Look no further: here are some of our favorite math puzzles that even the least number-savvy person will enjoy.
